LA CASA LIMBER

Calle Caleta street located on the west side of old San Juan was once the home of Edwin Rosado, proprietor of " La casa limber" the man who started this well-known popular business of selling tropical popsicles back when his idea had started in 1968.

The most popular spot in San juan where kids would line up to try their favorite treat. A frozen sweet combination of tart served on a cup had started originally in Puerto Rico. Usually, frozen popsicles were sold in the mom-and-pop homes with many flavors to choose from. The tropical tart is pronounced in Spanish as limber and was named after American aviator Charles Lindbergh, who had made a brief stop in San Juan on a good will tour around the Americas in 1938.

Today La casa limbers have kept a rich tradition serving daily customers for more than five decades. Once you visit the home of the Rosado family, you will be greeted with the kindest smile feeling as though somehow your bonded with the family. Miriam Rosado seen in the above photo was only eleven years old when the business opened. She attended school while her parents operated the business full time. Today you still see her serving daily customers. Maybe one day you will meet her in person. Trust me, she will tell you everything you need to know about La casa limber.

Many of us us will relive memories and cherish moments of joy when walking the old town streets. The pleasant experience of having long conversations on the best fruity limbers we can only think of the Rosado Family.

As a child my favorite limber had always been the flavor of coconut. The best part of our experience was flipping the limber upside down, it was the best way to flavor the sweet juices. I remember on those hot sweltering days after baseball practice, our grandmother would bring us to our favorite place, the limber house.

Many of my past and memorable memories will never vanish.
