By the early 40ss and 50ss, a huge modernization had amass the small populated suberb of condado which now had triple in size. The economy had reach new heights, prosperity and more jobs began rising in numbers.
The construction of taller buildings, hotels, and larger homes were often seen along the strip. The normandie hotel,an art deco style had certainly emerged given a magical touch of class an sophistation to a much modern image never seen in Puerto Rico.
Today the Vanderbilt hotel rises high above Ashford Avenue overlooking the blue pristine waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The Hollywood list of names have been added from its early days, from entertainers and hollywood singers. Bob Hope, Eleanor Roosevelt, charles limbergh just to name a few.
Other noticeable well-known permanent residents that made there home in condado. Dr. Bailey K Ashford, who became a pioneer in the world of medicine. A man who had discovered a cure for anemia, saving the lives of many thousand of people stricken by this deadly desease.
Others names worth mentioning were the behn Brothers, Both American entrepeneurs well known in the telecomunications fields and original founders of Puerto Rico telephone company. El Puente de los Hermano built in 1911 was named in honor of the bens brothers.
